Positioning system for X-ray detectors

X-ray detectors are used in research and industry for analysis and quality control. Mobile systems are often favoured as they allow flexible use at different locations.

In order to simplify the use of such detectors in stationary applications, especially for larger objects, and to make them safer, we have developed a positioning system in cooperation with the restoration centre in Düsseldorf. This allows the X-ray detector, which is attached to an exchangable holder, to be moved horizontally and vertically by motorised remote control within an area of 4 x 4 metres. This considerable simplifies alignment, e.g. behind altarpieces, furniture, sculptures etc., and leads to better, faster and reproducible results.

In addition, the restoration centre will be equipped with a ceiling rail system for the X-ray source in order to align this device, which weighs no less than 30 kg, parallel to the detector using a motorised ceiling telescope.
